Features

From camera to calibrated measurement.

The short version of what Pixosight does, in the order you'd do it. Open any section for the specifics.

Camera capture

Preview a camera before you capture.

Pick a source, watch it live, and capture when the part is in focus. Two backends mean your hardware doesn't have to be UVC to show up: Media Foundation handles USB and UVC devices, DirectShow covers the rest.

Capture details
  • Source pickerEvery detected camera, refreshable without restarting
  • PreviewAutostarts on the capture screen; falls back to the next source if one won't open
  • At launchNothing touches the camera until you open the capture screen
  • Camera settingsOpen from the same screen
  • DriversSome cameras need the manufacturer's driver package installed before Windows registers them as a DirectShow source; Pixosight lists whatever Windows already has
  • Import insteadPNG · JPG/JPEG · TIF/TIFF · BMP

Calibration

Calibrate once per optical setup.

Measure something of known size, enter the real value, name the profile. It belongs to that one magnification, focal distance and camera. Keep the setup and it loads every session after.

Calibration details
  • Calibrate fromA known length, or a known circle in frame
  • Unitspx · µm · mm · cm · in
  • ProfilesNamed and saved to a gallery: "5× / 1.0", "40× objective"
  • SharedStored machine-wide, so every Windows user on the PC gets them
  • PortableImport and export as JSON to move them between machines

A profile records the scale, not your optics. Nothing stops you loading one that doesn't match the setup in front of you; naming profiles after the configuration they belong to is what keeps this straight.

Measurement tools

Five measurement tools.

Results update as you draw. Each measurement carries its own unit and decimal precision, so a micron feature and a millimetre feature can share one image.

  • LinePoint-to-point distance. Can carry a numbered reference badge, (1), (2), for figure callouts.
  • CircleFit to a round feature. Reads diameter or radius.
  • ParallelEdge-to-edge gap: slots, steps, flanges.
  • ConcentricSeveral rings at once. Share one center, or fit each circle on its own, and set how many points each fit uses.
  • Ball CraterCoating thickness from crater geometry, single layer or multilayer.

Labels and layers

Multilayer measurements get a label each.

Parallel, Concentric and Ball Crater can each cover several layers, and every layer gets its own label rather than collapsing into one number. Nothing is locked in once placed: select it and adjust.

Label and layer details
  • Per-layerDisplay names and connectors that track the right layer
  • EditingChange a Ball Crater's layer count and the geometry reconciles
  • Result unitsSet per measurement, independent of the calibration unit
  • ConversionsRead other units off the label's context menu
  • PrecisionUp to six decimal places, per measurement
  • Cross thicknessSet independently of line thickness, down to 0.25
  • Copy outCtrl+C copies measurement text, multi-select included

Canvas and markup

Annotate the image while you work.

Three markup tools, Arrow, Draw for freehand, and Text Box, anywhere on the canvas alongside the measurements, with undo and redo behind everything.

Canvas details
  • MarkupArrow · Draw · Text Box
  • HistoryUndo/redo across measurement and settings changes
  • RemovalSelect an item, press Delete
  • ViewPan, zoom, fit-to-view, reset with Ctrl+0
  • RulersCalibrated overlay, toggleable
  • SelectionThin geometry stays easy to grab without thickening exported strokes

Project files

Sessions save to a project file.

A .pxst file holds the whole session and reopens exactly as you left it. Pixosight starts on a screen with your recent projects, so yesterday's work is one click away.

Project details
  • Format.pxst, one file per session
  • RestoresImage, viewport, calibrations, measurements, annotations, export notes
  • Start screenNew Capture · Import Image · Open Project · recent projects
  • PortableOpen it on any machine running Pixosight
  • Name clashesA project's calibration that already exists prompts rename, overwrite, or skip

Export

Export an image anyone can open.

PNG, JPEG, TIFF or BMP with the measurements and annotations baked in. Attach it to a report, email it, drop it in a folder. A scale bar, watermark and timestamp strip are available, and you can preview the result before writing it.

Export controls
  • Scale barOptional calibrated bar on the exported image
  • WatermarkYour own image, with placement, opacity, and scale
  • Info stripTimestamp and notes as a header or footer, with its own colors, text scale, and padding
  • FramingCrop to the annotated area, with an optional border
  • CleanupHide shape handles so only the finished geometry exports
  • ScalingSeparate visual scale and stroke scale for the output
  • ContentsExport the drawing, or the image on its own
  • DefaultsSave the arrangement and stop setting it up each time

System requirements.

Operating system
Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or later, and Windows 11
Cameras
Any camera Windows exposes as a capture device through Media Foundation or DirectShow. Some cameras only appear once the manufacturer's own driver package is installed; Pixosight lists whatever Windows has registered.
Internet
Required for license validation. Short-term offline use is supported; offline activation is available for air-gapped machines.
Installation
Signed installer from the customer portal for trial and paid licenses. Activate with your license key on first run.
